Lost Without Cause are:
Si – Vocals & Bass
Andy – Guitar & Backing Vocals
JJ – Drums & Backing Vocals
They’re a three piece Alternative Rock band from Watford, St Albans & Milton Keynes. This 7 Track Album: “Take Back Everything” is their latest release.
Established for quite a few years now and on their website the info is as follows: They have gigged with acts such as My Passion, Sacred Mother Tongue, Don Broco to name but a few and played venues like London Astoria 2 & Camden Barfly. Achievements so far have been they were featured in a MTV2 Documentary in 2007 and had a single that even got into the UK Charts.
Influences range from Pop Punk bands like Blink 182, Green Day; Rock bands like Foo Fighters, Muse to Hard Rock/Alternative groups like Therapy and Placebo.
“Come On!” was the first track I heard from this album when the boys forwarded it to be featured in our Tracks section. I immediately got the impression they were part of the influx of Pop Punk bands around at the moment. Certainly that’s one of their influences but this CD shows the groups diverse material.
Title: Take Back Everything
Type: Album
Recorded: Lucid Cut Productions
Production
Again matching up to the quality recordings I’ve reviewed recently. Drums nicely clean and crisp, Vocals loud and clear. The Bass could come out a bit more. (*She would say that, she’s a Bassist!*) Also more Rhythm Guitars could have been tracked to really beef the sound up.
Tracks
Trigger
A heavy rock track to kick it off is always a winner. This was the 2nd track I heard from these guys which reverted my belief they were just Pop Punk. The vocals lean towards it yes but more Alternative Rock in this track and can certainly hear the Placebo influences.
Lost My Mind
If there was to be a single released this would be it. The verses have the same feeling as Trigger, but then goes into a melodic “Emo” chorus.
Loser
Another track the radio stations would lap up – great chorus and Pop Punk comes out a lot in this track; Blink 182, Sum 41 are more prominent influences.
You Won’t Know
More “Emo” on this track? (Slap me on the wrist if I’m wrong) Highly emotive lyrics and a chorus that sticks in your head. Nice touch to have the Bridge then Verse end the track.
Sense
This is actually my favourite track on the album. This acoustic track – clearly about someone feeling low but a friend is there to help – is lovely and seeps emotion.
Come On!
Similar to Lost My Mind in regards to the Placebo inspired verses and then fuses to an uplifting chorus. Not the strongest song on the album but again you can’t help but sing the chorus around the house.
Situation
Ends the way it begins with a heavy alternative track. The vocals shouting: “You Bitch, you bitch” fuels anger and frustration.
End
Excellent collection of songs that I hope will gain the band more success on top of what they’ve already achieved.
I tend to never listen to the lyrics of a song but as the Vocals were very clear and with great diction I could make out what he was singing and made me more attentive to that area than usual.
My only complaint is whilst there were different styles of rock on the album – the vocal style was similar throughout.
One advantage of not having a Record Company breathe down your neck is the pressure to have so many songs on an album – creating the danger of filler tracks. With this release – Lost Without Cause have gone for quality over quantity. The best albums were made that way.
